KOCHI: Cochin Global Village – a combination of a consumer fair, aqua and flower show is on at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium.
A stage and other arenas nearby would host cultural and entertainment programmes, up to April 18.
The event has been presented jointly by the District Administration and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the stalls are housed in air-conditioned domes. A huge area has been set apart for imported flowers, mostly from Thailand.
Dry-flowers from the country are considered the best in the world. Wooden flower vases and amazingly-light ‘fruits' made of thermocol are among the other attractions.
At the flower show has been displayed a 25-foot dinosaur made from over 10,000 carnations and asparagus bunches.
A floral carpet made of exotic orchids, gerbera, alstromerias (rather rare in this part of the world), different varieties of chrysanthemums, carnations, roses and heliconia is another attraction.
The piranha – perhaps the most feared freshwater fish in the world, is among the exhibits at the aqua show. On weekdays the show would be open from 1 pm to 9 pm while on public holidays, Saturdays and Sundays it would be open from 11 am till 9 pm. Entry is through tickets.
